Overview

About the ECNL:
The ECNL is a national youth soccer league founded in 2009 for U-15 through U-18 girls’ teams for the purpose of providing the highest level of competition and the best developmental environment for American female youth soccer players, as well as an identification and development program, which will seek to include players in US Soccer’s National Teams. The 2010-11 season is the ECNL’s second season, during which each U-15 through U-17 team will play in three of the five regular-season events, as well as four Regional ECNL games. Each U-18 team will play in two of the first four regular-season events, as well as four Regional ECNL games.

Each of the 52 member clubs in 2010-11 will have a team in the U-15 through U-17 age groups, while 50 teams will compete in the U-18 age group. In total, each team in the U-15 through U-17 age groups will play 13 regular-season games and three postseason games, and each team in the U-18 age group will play 10 regular-season games with the top eight teams advancing to the ECNL National Championship.

Mission Statement:
The Elite Clubs National League, Inc. (“ECNL”) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit member-based organization founded in 2009 to enhance the developmental experience of the female youth soccer players in the United States through: (i) improving the competitive environment through creation of a true nationally-based competitive league with multiple flights; (ii) improving the process for identifying elite female soccer players for the U.S. Soccer youth national teams through a systematic scouting and identification program based on national competition; and (iii) improving the daily training environment at female youth soccer clubs through developing best practices and training and organizational guidelines for its member clubs.

2010-11 ECNL Competition:
The ECNL is the elite competitive league for youth female soccer players in the United States. In the 2010-11 season, the ECNL will consist of 52 of the top female youth soccer clubs throughout the United States competing in two 26-team flights - Challenge A and Challenge B. Each U-15 through U-17 team  will play 13 regular-season games and three postseason games, and each U-18 team will play 10 regular-season games. Each U-15 through U-17 ECNL team will play regular-season games at three ECNL events, selected from five regular-season ECNL events: (i) the ECNL Fall National Showcase in August in Temecula, Calif.; (ii) the ECNL Final Four Showcase in December in Raleigh, N.C.; (iii) the ECNL Regular-Season Event #3 in December in Sanford, Fla.; (iv) the ECNL Regular-Season Event #4 in March in San Antonio, Texas; and (v) the PDA College Showcase in May in Zarephath, N.J. Teams in the U-18 age group will play in two of the first four regular-season events.

Following the conclusion of the regular-season, the ECNL will host the ECNL National Championships July 14-16, 2011, at a location to be determined. At the ECNL National Championships, every U-15 through U-17 ECNL team and the top eight U-18 teams will compete in three post-season playoff games to determine final standings in each division at each age group. Teams will participate in one of four groups: the Championship Group (the top eight teams at each of the U-15 through U-18 age groups), the Promotion/Relegation Group (teams that finished third and fourth in Challenge B and 23rd and 24th in Challenge A in the U-15 through U-17 age groups), the Challenge A Field (all other Challenge A teams in the U-15 through U-17 age groups) and the Challenege B Field (all other Challenge B teams in the U-15 through U-17 age groups).

At the conclusion of the ECNL National Championships, individual age group ECNL National Champions will be crowned and an overall ECNL Club National Champion will be crowned. In addition to the two teams from Challenge B that will automatically be promoted to Challenge A and the two teams from Challenge A that will automatically be relegated to Challenge B in the U-15 through U-17 age groups at the end of the regular season, the Promotion/Relegation Group will determine the final two spots in each Challenge for the following season.

2010-11 ECNL Player Identification Program:
The ECNL player identification program in 2010-11 will be organized in conjunction with US Club Soccer’s id2 player identification and development program. ECNL coaches and staff will work closely with id2 staff to identify elite female players in the 1996 and 1997 birth years for participation in one of three id2 National Camps. In addition, players in the 1994 and 1995 birth years will be scouted in ECNL competition for invitations to a special ECNL / id2 National Camp in early 2011. The ECNL will cover all costs of participation (except travel) for ECNL players identified in the 1994-95 age group for this camp.

ECNL National Championship
Seattle, Washington, July 14-18, 2010

The competition here is excellent," Tatu said about ECNL. "This is what we need as a team. This is the only way soccer in America is going to get better is through the quality of the competition, and we had three good games to play here against strong opponents. I wish we had this a long time ago. Games like this make you a better player."

Comments like this were heard as the inaugural season of ECNL finished with style!  Top teams from around the nation gathered at 60 Acres Soccer Complex outside of Seattle, Washington.  The fields thick with spectators and college coaches as games played out for rankings, promotion, relegation and of course, champinships.  Arsenal teams were right in the middle of the battle.

Congratualtions to Jason Montgomery and the GU16 ECNL team for their championship win in Challenge B.  The Arsenal GU15 team held Dallas Sting at 2-2 through overtime but fell 4-5 in penalties during the finals to finish second in the league in Challenge A.

PDA College Showcase
Arsenal Girls make their mark on the East Coast

What a fantastic weekend and incredible results for all three teams at the PDA College Showcase in New Jersey.  We had set team goals and Club goals for all three teams and each team did exactly what they had to do. The GU15’s had to win 2 games and tie one to move onto the finals, they did just that and finished third in points in Group "A" to compete for the ECNL National Championship in Seattle.  The GU16’s had to win at least two to compete for the "A" Flight and now they have won 6 straight games and are now the highest point getter in Group "B".  The 17’s needed to come away with one big win to stay in the "A" flight and did so in their first game in a wild 4-3 win.

Two great tours: the first at Rutgers with Coach Glen and the second at Princeton with Coach Scott.  Rutgers was a bigger campus with amazing soccer training facilities and Stadium.  Princeton was much more intimate with a brand new 15 million dollar game field.  Being on Campus at Princeton was like being in Europe in a beautiful quaint little town.  Both Coaches followed our girls around quite a bit at the Tournament.

There were over 300 coaches at the tourney and again for the third Tournament in a row the "ECNL" got the most coverage by far.  We had coaches on both sides of the fields watching our wonderful Student Athletes in every game except for Memorial Day Monday.  In fact, each of the schools we have taken the time to visit this ECNL season had coaches watching our games this weekend.

New York City: Each of our teams were able to fit in memorable trips the NYC.  For some it was Times Square to the Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue and Central Park, others experienced Ground Zero and Battery Park while some went shopping in Soho.  Between the three teams all modes of transportation were used; trains, ferries, buses, taxis, the subway and even pedicabs.  How amazing!

ECNL gears back up
Next stop - Las Vegas!

As high school soccer finishes out their league season we look forward to getting back to club soccer. We have an exciting year ahead with Arsenal FC and the ECNL!

The trip to Texas in December was a great success!  Not only did the girls play great soccer in front of college coaches during the showcase, but they were able to see two different universities, hear about their soccer programs, and see the NCAA semi’s and final.

Our next showcase is the Las Vegas College Showcase, March 12-14, 2010, in Las Vegas, NV.  If you are unable to participate please contact me at your earliest convenience.

For planning purposes, please remember that we are required to participate in following upcoming events in order to maintain our ECNL membership. The ECNL is growing and will provide great exposure and opportunities for our female scholar athletes..

Final Four Showcase
Arsenal FC and its ECNL teams have a great soccer experience in Texas!
The weather may have been cold but that didn't stop the three ECNL teams from Arsenal from making the most out of their trip to Texas.  The weekend started with a campus tour of the University of Houston then off to College Station.  Each team then participated in 3 soccer games during the event.  With over 300 college coaches in attendance our Arsenal girls were truly able to showcase themselves.  A highlight of the trip was being able to attend the NCAA womens college soccer semi's and final.  North Carolina, Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame were all amazing teams to watch!  Some authentic local food and a campus tour and soccer talk at Texas A & M finished of the weekend activities.

ECNL and College Recruiting and Highschool
College recruiting and the ECNL

COLLEGE RECRUITING AND THE ECNL:

How will the ECNL change college recruiting?
The ECNL brings together the best female soccer clubs in the country to compete against each other in five regular-season events and one post-season event. However, for the first time ever, the competitive schedule for these games for the entire year is determined at the beginning of the year. As such, college coaches can more easily plan their recruiting calendar to insure that they see all players in which they are interested – and see them competing against the best players in the country.

How will ECNL games be played at collegiate showcases?
To insure maximum exposure for ECNL players, all ECNL games will be played at adjacent fields and at similar times at all ECNL events. The ECNL is working with each showcase to insure that the ECNL games are provided maximum exposure, and that the “drawing power” of every ECNL club is combined to increase attendance of college coaches for all teams. Additionally, due to the structure of the ECNL, ECNL members are guaranteed acceptance into the collegiate showcase events at which their ECNL regular-season games are played.

Why should I play in the ECNL if I intend to go to college close to home?
NCAA Division I, II and III college soccer programs recruit nationally, and opportunities to play in NCAA Division I tend to go to players from nationally competitive teams. Elite players maximize their opportunities to be recruited for college and to be identified for the national team by playing against the top talent from around the country at the best college showcases. The ECNL guarantees you with the opportunity to play the best players, at the biggest showcase events, every year.

Can a player that participates in the ECNL also participate in high school soccer?
Yes. The ECNL schedules are created to insure that all players that participate in the ECNL also have the opportunity to play high school soccer. The ECNL is not prohibiting players from its member clubs from participating in high school soccer.
