Two Arsenal alumni drafted in the 1st and 2nd Rounds of the NWSL College Draft

Arsenal would like to congratulate both Ifeoma Onumonu and Katie Johnson for the first and second round selection in the NWSL College Draft.  Ife was selected 8th overall in the First Round by the Boston Breakers.  After completing her U18 ECNL season with Arsenal, Ife went on to play at Cal where you can see some of her accomplishments below.

Career Highlights:

  • All-Pac-12 First Team (2012, 2016)

  • Pac-12 Freshman of the Year (2012)

  • Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention (2013, 2015, 2016)
  • Soccer America All-Freshman First Team
  • MAC Hermann Watch List (2013)
Katie was selected by the Seattle Reign in the Second Round, 16th overall.  Katie played at USC and competed in qualifying for the Mexican National Team for the Rio Olympics. A few of Katies College highlights at USC are below.

INTERNATIONAL: Competed in 2016 Rio Olympics qualifying with the Mexican National Team.

2015: Redshirted the season, recovering from injury.

2014: 
Johnson played in 19 of 21 games, starting 16 of those…Finishhed tied for second with Fink with six goals…Added two assists, finished third with 14 points…Had two game-winning goals (vs. Iowa State, at Washington State)…The forward tallied 44 shots, 23 of those on goal.

2013: Johnson played in all 20 games for the Trojans, starting 15 of them…She scored five goals, tying her for second on the team…Three of her five goals came in a hat trick vs. Loyola Marymount (Sept. 15), the first by a Trojan since 2010…She also tallied goals vs. Cal State Northridge (Aug. 30) and Oregon (Nov. 1)…Took a team-high 48 shots…Earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

2012: Johnson played in all 19 games and started 15 as a freshman… Scored three goals and added one assist… First career goal was against Minnesota… Also scored twice vs. Portland… First career assist was vs. ASU.
